Real Estate Tax Exemption Forms

Real Estate Tax Bills cover the current calendar year. Example: Tax bills issued in July 2021 cover January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021.

The deadline to file an appeal on a Real Estate or Tangible Tax bill is 90 from the date the first tax payment is due.  Appeal forms are available in the Tax Assessor's Office.

Exemptions:

The Town of West Warwick has established a variable exemption for those who are over 65 years of age or 100% permanently and totally disabled and have been owner residents of single family homes in the town for at least 3 years. This exemption is based on income.
INCOME EXEMPTION
$   0 -       $ 15,000 = $ 1000.00
$ 15,001 - $ 20,000 = $ 800.00
$ 20,001 - $ 25,000 = $ 600.00
$ 25,001 - $ 30,000 = $ 400.00
$ 30,001 - $ 35,000 = $ 300.00
$ 35,001 - $ 40,000 = $ 200.00
$ 40,001 - $ 45,000 = $100.00

ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE FILED IN THE ASSESSOR'S OFFICE BY MARCH 15TH TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR CURRENT YEARS TAX BILL.

Elderly Exemption     Elderly Exemption Form 2026     
The Town of West Warwick has exempted from taxation the real estate in West Warwick which is owned and occupied by owners over 65 years of age in an amount currently of $20,534 of value. One exemption per household is allowed. 

Owner Occupied 2-Family Dwelling     Proof of Owner Occupied 2-Family Dwelling Form 2026

Homeowners who occupy a 2 family dwelling are eligible for the single family tax rate after completion and approval of an application submitted to the Tax Assessor by the deadlines specified.

Totally Blind Resident     

The real estate owned and occupied by an owner who is totally legally blind, so certified by the state of RI, is eligible to receive an exemption in the amount of $335.00.

Veteran's Exemption     Veteran Exemption Form 2026
A copy of the applicant's form DD-214 is required. Veterans who served honorably in the armed forces, the merchant marines or National Guard of the US, or the unmarried widow of one who served.

. The Town of West Warwick gives those who own real estate $20,534 off the value of their property. 

Gold Star Parent (1 only)
The property of every person whose son or daughter has served with the armed forces of the United States and has lost his or her life as a result of his or her service with the armed forces of the United States, providing the death was determined to be in the line of duty shall be exempted from taxation to the amount of $190.00. Application must be filed by March 15th.

All exemptions shall terminate upon the conveyance of the subject property, death of the person or persons exempted or the moving of such person or persons from the Town of West Warwick, or in the case of a disability exemption when the physical or mental illness is terminated.
